
DOVER – Eugene I. Slacum, Sr., passed away surrounded by his family on Saturday Aug. 25, 2012, at Delaware Hospice Center in Milford, Del. Gene was born June 19, 1924, in Cambridge, Md., the son of the late Gorman and Grace Slacum. He was also preceded in death by his wife, Luvia S. (Short) Slacum; son, Eugene I. Slacum, Jr.; sister, Rose Wheatley; and brother, Leon Slacum. He served in the Army during World War II from Feb. 1943 to Aug. 1946. In 1946, he married Luvia Short. Together, they celebrated over 50 years of marriage, during which time, they lived in Dover, Seaford & Wilmington. He retired from the State of Delaware as an administrator in 1988. He was a Realtor & Broker in Delaware for more than 50 years. He is survived by his sons, Ronald Slacum of Lewes, Richard Slacum of Dover, Robin Slacum of Millsboro, Scott Slacum of Dover, and Stacey Slacum of Magnolia; daughters-in-law Chris Slacum of Magnolia and Sue Slacum of Dover; sister, Emily Johnson of Bridgeville; sister-in-law, Lucy Slacum of Seaford; grandchildren, Ashley Wyatt (and husband Chad Wyatt), Richard Slacum, Laura Slacum, Leslie Gonzales (and husband Joshua Gonzales), Sarah Slacum, Rebecca Slacum, Megan Slacum, Logan Slacum, Alexis Slacum, Nikki Papen (and husband Joshua Papen), and Brianna Darling; and great-grandchildren: Aidan and Ava Wyatt, Austin Gonzales, and Joslyn, Jaylee, and Jaci Papen. A visitation for family and friends will be held from 5 to 8 p.m. on Thursday, Aug. 30th 2012, at Trader Funeral Home, 12 Lotus Street, Dover DE. Funeral Services will be held Friday, Aug. 31st at 10 am at Trader Funeral Home. Interment will immediately follow at Barratts Chapel Cemetery in Frederica, Del. During his life, he gave much of his spare time to the Dover Little League, coaching many teams over the years. He was also passionate about animals and gave often to the SPCA.
