Estelle Nichols Barnes

CAMBRIDGE - Estelle Nichols Barnes died Thursday, Dec. 5, 2013 at her home. Born May 7, 1915 in Dorchester County, she was the daughter of the late Mary Cornish and James Nichols. She was educated in the public schools of Dorchester County and was employed as a domestic worker and babysitter. After high school she moved to Baltimore, Maryland. Later, she moved to Washington, D.C. where she met and married the late Benjamin Barnes on Feb. 16, 1952. In addition to her parents and husband, she was preceded in death by six sisters, Helen Nichols, Elsie Benson, Loleta Clark, Louetta Brown, Hattie Nichols and Augusta Nichols; three brothers, James Nichols, Louis Nichols and George Nichols; and a niece, Loretta Johnson. Survivors include nieces, Virginia Brisco, Christine (John) Allen (all of Cambridge), Sara Parks (Landover); a stepson, Raymond (Sally) Barnes (Baltimore); several great nieces, great nephews, cousins and a host friends. Services will be held at noon on Saturday, Dec. 14, 2013 at Henry Funeral Home, PA., 510 Washington St., Cambridge, with a viewing one hour prior. Interment in Bethel Cemetery.
