Emma W. Gunning

MILFORD - Emma W. Gunning passed away Monday, Feb. 25, 2013 at the Delaware Hospice Center in Milford. Emma was born on Dec. 6, 1921 in Milford, daughter of the late John and Emma S. (Hudson) Whaley. She was employed for 17 years with Montgomery Ward in Milford as a payroll clerk, retiring in 1980 to become a full time homemaker. Emma was a member and past president of the Blue Hen VFW Post #6483 Women's Auxiliary and a member of the Avenue United Methodist Church in Milford. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Francis J. "Art" Gunning in 2010. She is survived by a son, Steve A. Gunning of Baton Rouge, La.; two daughters, Debi A. Dick of Riva, Md., and Fran S. Gunning of Milford; and five grandchildren. A memorial service to celebrate her life will be held at 11 a.m. on Saturday, March 16, 2013 at the Avenue United Methodist Church, 20 N. Church St, Milford. Burial will be held privately. In lieu of flowers, the family has requested memorial contributions to Delaware Hospice, 100 Patriots Way, Milford, DE, 19963.
