FELTON - Elva Grogan Warren, 93, of Felton and Lewes, died Thursday, Nov. 14, 2013 at home. She was preceded in death by her husband of 53 years, Albert D. Warren, Sr. She graduated from the University of Delaware in 1941 with a B.S. in Education. Prior to her marriage to our dear Father, she taught in Felton School for two years. She continued "teaching" in her gentle, but demanding, way until the last days of her life. Mrs. Warren was a member of St. Stephens Episcopal Church, in Harrington, where she served as President of the Episcopal Church Women and a Delegate to the National Annual Convention. She was a volunteer for many years at the Milford Memorial Auxiliary in the hospital gift shop. In 1943, Mrs. Warren became a member of the Avon Club of Felton (GFWC Delaware State Federation of Women's Clubs). In Dec. of 2012, she was honored as a 70 year member of the Avon Club of Felton. She founded the clubs' College Scholarship Program and remained an active participant in the selection process for many years. She loved to read and instilled her love of reading into her children. She taught them that if you have a book you will never be lonely. The most important thing to Mrs. Warren was her family and it was very clear she loved them all very much. Another trait inherited by her children is her philosophy on friendship. In order to have a valued friend you need to be a good friend. She was preceded in death by her husband of 53 years, Albert D. Warren, Sr. She is survived by three children, Patricia Carlson and husband, Michael Ciccarelli, of Dover; A. Downes Warren, Jr. and his wife, Naomi Richards of Henderson, Md. and E. Jane Warren and her husband, Bob Payne of Kingwood, Texas; three grandchildren, Eric Carlson, A. Downes Warren, III, and Emily Warren; and two great-grandchildren. The family would like to thank Dr. Joseph F. Rubacky, III and Dr. Stephen F. Penny and the staff for her care. A special thank you to her three amazing caregivers, for their kind, compassionate, and totally devoted care; Diane Collison, Jackie Cheezum, and Kathy Kibler. Funeral services will be held at noon on Monday, Nov. 18, 2013 at St. Stephens Episcopal Church, 190 Raughley Hill Road, Harrington, DE., where friends may call between 11 a.m. to noon for visitation. Interment will be in Barratt's Chapel Cemetery, Frederica, DE. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to: Elva G. Warren Memorial Fund, St. Stephens Episcopal Church, 190 Raughley Hill Rd. Harrington, DE 19952 or: Elva G. Warren Memorial Scholarship Fund, Avon Club of Felton, 2445 Paradise Alley, Felton, DE 19943. Arrangements handled by Berry-Short Funeral Home, Felton.
