ELLENDALE - A 75-year-old Pennsylvania man died in a motor vehicle collision involving a tractor trailer Thursday night, authorities said.
Delaware State Police said the man, of Hamburg, was driving a vehicle on Dupont Boulevard at approximately 7:41 p.m. when it swerved to avoid striking a tractor trailer. The vehicle then collided with the rear right axle of the trailer and crashed.
The Pennsylvania man, who police said was wearing a seat belt, was transported to an area hospital, where he was later pronounced deceased. Identification of the victim is pending notification to the next of kin.
Police said the driver of the tractor trailer, a 38-year-old Laurel woman, was wearing a seat belt and did not report any injuries.
No other vehicles were involved in the incident. The roadway was closed for approximately five hours while the collision was investigated and cleared.
