BALTIMORE - Ella Mae Hopkins Pinder passed away on Sunday, Oct. 14, 2007, one day before her 92nd birthday.

She was born to the late Nehemiah and Catherine Jones Hopkins on Oct. 15, 1915, in Cambridge. She was the youngest of 10 children.

Ms. Pinder attended the Dorchester County Public Schools and later Dunbar Night School in Baltimore. After the death of her mother, Ella, at the age of 14, she was left with the responsibility of not only keeping house for her father, but of raising her nephew, William R. Hopkins.

She gave birth to her only son, Ellsworth Leon Hopkins Jr. In 1932 she married Waddell Pinder who preceded her in death.

Mrs. Pinder moved to Baltimore, where she resided until her death. She worked for many years as a dietary worker, retiring from the U.S. Public Health Hospital.

During her lifetime, she was a member of the East Baltimore Lodge 1043, I.B.P.O.E. of W.-Zorah Elliott Temple 717 and the Golden Age Club. In her later years, she joined Wilson Park Christian Community Church. During that time she was a member of the Missionary Society where she served until her health declined.

She is survived by her son, Ellsworth and his wife, Shirley; three granddaughters, Pandoria King, Rene Meddaugh (David) and Charisse Johnson (Andrew); nine great-grandchildren; nine great-great-grandchildren; two sisters-in-law, Emma Hopkins and Roberta Hopkins; a number of nieces, nephews and cousins.

Besides her husband, Mrs. Pinder was preceded in death by one granddaughgter, Ella Mae Bryant (Cynthia); four brothers, Will, Luther, Linwood and William Hopkins; five sisters, Mamie Woolford, Roxie Molock, Elsie Hopkins, Annie Boardley and Bertha Jones.

Services will be held 6:30 p.m. Friday at Wilson Park Christian Community Church, 4629-31 York Road, Baltimore with Pastor Roselyn B. Ushry officiating. A memorial service will take place at 12:30 p.m. Saturday at Mt. Pleasant UM Church at Salem with the Rev. Jonathan Whitney officiating. Burial will follow at 1:30 p.m. in the Mt. Pleasant Cemetery.
