Elizabeth Ruth Jones, 70
CHESTERTOWN, Md. - Elizabeth Ruth Jones of Chestertown, died Wednesday, March 25, 2009, in the Chester River Hospital Center in Chestertown. She was 70. Elizabeth R. Jones was born Feb. 18, 1939, in Niagara Falls, N.Y., the daughter of the late Robert Henry and Maria Giles. Mrs. Jones graduated from Snow Hill High School and then moved to Hamilton, Ind., where she attended and graduated from Purdue University of Nursing. After working for several years as a nurse in Ohio she married the late Thomas L. Jones, MD, and started a family. In the late 1980s she received her Bachelors degree from Washington College. Mrs. Jones was a member of the Maryland Commission for Women and was very active in politics. She enjoyed gardening, reading and loved spending time with her grandchildren and her beloved dog Mack. In addition to her parents, Mrs. Jones was preceded in death by one sister, Barbara Pecor. She is survived by two sons, Thomas Jones and his wife Dawn of Snow Hill, and Win Jones of Dover, Del.; two daughters, Jamie Winer of Franklin, Tenn., and Melissa Freeman and husband Steve of Sudlersville; and 11 grandchildren, Keith, Justin, Hannah, Kylie, Jacob, Patrick, Alex, Ben, Cole, Joshua and Lauren. Services will be held 2 p.m. Sunday at Fellows, Helfenbein and Newnam Funeral Home 130 Speer Road, Chestertown. A visitation will be held two hours prior. Interment will be held in Sudlersville Cemetery in Sudlersville, following the service. In lieu of flowers, contributions can be sent to the Woody Cannon Non-Traditional Student Scholarship Fund at Chesapeake College P.O. Box 8, 1000 College Circle Wye Mills, MD 21679.
