GEORGETOWN — Eighth-graders across Sussex County interested in Sussex Technical High School’s award-winning career and technical education programs are invited to its annual open house on Saturday, Nov. 3.
Students and their families can meet the teachers, visit the school’s facilities, and learn about career areas, academic courses, athletics, extracurricular activities, educational technology and the admissions process.
Doors will open and registration will begin at 8:15 a.m., with a presentation starting promptly at 9 a.m. Students may then visit classrooms and talk with teachers and current students; refreshments will also be served.
“We welcome everyone to learn what Sussex Tech has to offer through its 18 different technical areas,” said Sussex Tech Principal John Demby. “Our students graduate career- and college-ready, with a wide range of professional certifications in their fields.”
Sussex Tech also holds career day visits on Nov. 30 and Dec. 7 for eighth-graders to visit while school is in session and can schedule individual tours throughout the year as requested.
Sussex Tech is using a new application process this year, moving to an online system that will streamline and simplify the process. Eighth-graders can apply to Sussex Tech using the statewide school choice application beginning Monday, Nov. 5 at 8 a.m. at www.schoolchoicede.org. The application system is overseen by the state Data Service Center.
“This new application system is more user-friendly and simpler to use, and we hope it will increase the transparency of our admissions process,” Mr. Demby said.
The application period closes Jan. 9, and acceptance notifications will be issued by Feb. 28. Parents or guardians must notify the district of the acceptance decision by March 22. Students not accepted initially will be placed on a waiting list and admitted throughout the spring and summer as space becomes available. Approximately 300 students are accepted each year from about 600 applicants.
