Eight downstate teams made the 24-team field for the DIAA volleyball state tournament, it was announced late Saturday night.
Smyrna High and Delmarva Christian both earned first round byes.
Delmarva Christian is seeded fifth and will face the winner of No. 12 Newark Charter vs. No. 21 St. Elizabeth on Saturday, Nov. 3. The time and place for that second round matchup has yet to be determined.
Smyrna is the seventh seed. The Henlopen Conference champions will play either No. 10 St. Marks or No. 23 Caravel. That second round matchup is scheduled for Saturday, Nov. 3 and will be hosted by Archmere Academy.
Caesar Rodney High is the ninth seed and hosts St. Georges, the 24th seed, in a first round contest on Thursday at 7 p.m.
Cape Henlopen is seeded 16th and will face No. 17 Dover on Thursday at 6 p.m. That contest will be played at Caesar Rodney as the first game of a doubleheader.
St. Thomas More earned the 19th seed and meets No. 14 Red Lion Christian Academy in Thursday's first round at 7 p.m., hosted by Tower Hill.
Indian River is seeded 15th. The Indians play Appoquinimink on Thursday at St. Mark's in a 6 p.m. game.
Sussex Central rounds out the downstate squads in the tournament with the No. 22 seed. The Golden Knights take on Tower Hill, the 11th seed, at 6 p.m. on Thursday at Tower Hill.
