Edward J. Kaczka

DOVER - Edward J. Kaczka passed away Thursday, Jan. 24, 2013 at Kent General Hospital, Dover. Edward was born in Bath Beach, N.Y., son of the late John and Karolina Kaczka. He lived his early years in New Jersey where he began farming at Papen Brothers. He married Elaine Papen in 1951 and they moved to Delaware in 1958 where he continued farming. He was a founding partner of Papen Farms, Inc. His hobbies included bowling and harness racing. After retiring, he enjoyed working in his children's gardens. He grew the best cucumbers in the state. He was a faithful sports fan, loved animals and enjoyed spending time with his grandchildren. He is preceded in death by his wife of 36 years, Elaine Papen Kaczka in 1987; two sisters; one brother; and a grandson, Edward J. Kaczka III. Edward is survived by four children, Edward J. Kaczka, Jr. and his wife Ada of Sandy, Utah, Anthony "Tony" Kaczka and his wife ML of Dover, Christine Burt and her husband Norman of Felton, Gene Kaczka and his wife Courtney of Felton; seven grandchildren, Katherine Kaczka, Kirsten Kaczka-Rivera, Elisa Pierce, Norman Burt II, Jamie Clawson, Kaitlyn Kaczka and Colby Kaczka; and four great-grandsons. Visitation will be held from 6 to 8 p.m. Tuesday, Jan. 29, 2013 at the Pippin Funeral Home, 119 W. Camden-Wyoming Ave., Wyoming. Service will be held at 11 a.m. Wednesday, Jan. 30, 2013 at the funeral home. Burial will follow in Lakeside Cemetery, Dover. In lieu of flowers, the family suggests contributions to Kent County SPCA, 32 Shelter Circle, Camden, DE 19934 or a charity of your choice.
