Edward C. Brown Jr.

Smyrna - Edward C. Brown Jr. died peacefully at Bayhealth Medical Center, Dover on Sunday October 12, 2014. He was born in Long Island, N.Y. on April 9, 1928, the son of the late Edward C. and Elizabeth Brown Sr. He was the second Long Island, N.Y. potato grower to come to Delaware in 1948, where he continued to farm until 1982. He was a member of the Delaware Produce Growers; Delaware Farm Bureau; the Civil Air Patrol; St. Polycarp Catholic Church, Smyrna; and a former member of the Knights of Columbus. In his early years, he was an avid flyer and enjoyed flying out of the Smyrna Airport. He was also a member of the Kent County Amateur Radio Club, and won the Outstanding Radio Amateur of the Year Award in 1966. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife, Sue Brown. He is survived by his special friends, Clara Marie Gravatt; William Ogden; and Mark Wilson. Services will be held 1:00 p.m. Thursday October 16 at Matthews-Bryson Funeral Home, 123 W. Commerce St, Smyrna, where friends may call one hour prior to services. Burial will be in Odd Fellows Cemetery, Smyrna. In lieu of flowers, contributions may be sent to St. Polycarp Parish, 135 Ransom Lane, Smyrna, DE 19977.
