GALESTOWN, MD - Edna Willey Massey died Jan. 19, 2013 at Lofland Park Center in Seaford after a long illness. Her husband of 35 years, Willard J. Massey, preceded her in death in 1970. Mrs. Massey was born Jan. 4, 1914, one of the eleven daughters of Ralph and Alice Willey of Galestown. She graduated from Hurlock High School on June 15, 1931. She worked at Swarthmore College in Pa. until she and her husband began farming near Galestown in 1936. They later owned and operated Massey's Grocery Store in Galestown until 1954. The family then moved to Rock Hall, Md. where they were employed by Bramble Canning Corp. Thereafter, Mrs. Massey was employed as a bookkeeper for Bramble Canning Corp. in Greenwood, Del., then as a bookkeeper for John A. Price Company in Salisbury, Md. and later as a bookkeeper for Five Star Farms in Hebron, Md. for many years. She is survived by a son, Ralph F. Massey of Galestown; a daughter, Leona Massey Van Dyke and her husband, Ralph M. Van Dyke of Worton, Md.; three grandsons, Marvin Van Dyke, David Van Dyke, and Willard F. Massey; five great-grandsons; one sister, Kathleen W. Collins of Brookview, Md.; and numerous nieces and nephews. A memorial service will be held graveside in Galestown Cemetery on Thursday, Jan. 24, 2013 at 2 p.m. In lieu of flowers, contributions in Mrs. Massey's memory may be sent to VITAS Hospice, 100 Commerce Drive, Suite 302, Newark, DE 19713. Arrangements are in the care of Watson-Yates Funeral Home, Seaford, Delaware.
