Edna G. Mitchell

DOVER - Edna G. Mitchell passed away Thursday, April 16th, 2015 at her daughter's home in Dover surrounded by her loving family. Edna was born on August 4th, 1932 in Frederica, Delaware to the late Watson and Dorothy Green. She was also preceded in death by her first husband George E. Heininger and her second husband Bart T. Mitchell as well as her daughter Deborah L. Heininger, brother Harry Green, sisters: Dorothy Collins, Ina McKamey, Beatrice Solloway, and Clara Lou Emerson. Edna worked for over twenty years at Playtex. She also worked at ACME, and the Capitol School District as a cafeteria worker. During her retirement years she was a licensed day care mother. She later volunteered her time for several organizations in the community including: Delaware Association of School Administrators, Kent County Chamber of Commerce, Dover Modern Maturity Center (RSVP), the Biggs Museum, Schwartz Center and St. Judes Children's Research Association. Edna's largest passion was volunteering for Delaware Hospice including coordinating events for The Festival of Trees, Camp New Hope and various Health Fairs. Edna had several hobbies and interests. She loved cooking/baking, sewing, reading/journaling, walking/exercising, music/dancing, gardening and mainly, she enjoyed helping others. She loved her home and gathering with friends and neighbors. Most importantly she cherished time with her family especially her grandsons. Edna (Eshie) will always be remembered for her kind, independent and generous nature. Edna was married to George E. Heininger, the love of her life, for twenty two years until his death in 1973. Together they enjoyed raising their three daughters. They also had a passion for dancing and would be known for clearing the dance floor with their famous jitterbug and waltzes. Edna later married Bart T. Mitchell in 1977 until his death in 1992. They traveled to Europe, Panama and several states in the U.S. including various cruises and RV trips. They enjoyed camping and fishing with friends. Edna is survived by her daughters and son in-laws: Suzanne and Douglas T. Much of Dublin, California and Georgia Gail and Thomas R. Trader of Dover, Del. She is also survived by her brother Richard Green of Viola, Del.; her sisters: Effie Romans of Minier, Ill. and Virginia Ball of Dover, Del.; her grandsons: Matthew Taylor and wife Annemarie of Washougal, Washington and Dale Harrison of Jacksonville, Fla.; a precious great grandson Jackson Taylor and grand-kitty Puddy Much. A gathering of family and friends will be Sunday, April 19th, 2015 from 2 p.m. until 4 pm with a prayer service at 3:30 p.m. at Barratt's Chapel in Frederica, Del. A Funeral Service will take place on Monday, April 20th, 2015 at 11:30 a.m. at Trader Funeral Home, 12 Lotus Street in Dover, Delaware. Family and friends may call at 10 a.m. The Burial will be held at Sharon Hill Memorial Park in Dover, Delaware. In lieu of flowers, contributions in Edna's honor can be made to Delaware Hospice, 16 Polly Drummond Center, Polly Drummond Shopping Center, Newark, DE 19711.
