Cornish, 68 CAMBRIDGE - Edith M. Murray-Cornish, 68, died August 12, 2015, after struggling with a sudden illness for several months. Edith was born July 21, 1947 to Edith and the late George Murray Sr. in Dorchester County, Maryland. She graduated from Maces Lane High School Class in 1965 and from Bowie State in 1970 with a degree in childhood education. She taught at Secretary Elementary School. She served at the Elm Street Day Care, and as a family support group counselor for the Dorchester County Board of Education. She earned a master's degree in social work from Delaware State in 1995, and worked at the Caroline County Department of Social Services, retiring in 2003. She was an active member of Waugh Chapel United Methodist Church, in the Angelic and Senior choirs. She was the chairperson of the Missions Committee. An active member of Delta Sigma Theta Sorority Inc., since 1969, Edith participated in a multitude of local, statewide, and national activities. After her retirement, Edith worked as a substitute teacher in the Dorchester County Schools. She also enjoyed her other interests – learning the computer; sports (she was a Redskins and Wizards fan); singing; reading; traveling; spending time with her family – especially her grandchildren – and taking pictures. Funeral services will be held 11 a.m. on Saturday, August 22 at Waugh Chapel United Methodist Church 425 High St., Cambridge, with a viewing Friday evening 6-8 pm and one hour prior to service on Saturday at the church.
