MILLINGTON, Md. - Edie Morales of Millington, Md. died Monday, Feb. 24, 2014 at her home. She was 72. Edie was born June 10, 1941 in Wilmington, Del. the daughter of the late Alfred Dill and Dorothy O'Neal Dill Simon. Edie was a 1959 graduate of Galena High School. She went to work for Playtex and Howard Johnson's Restaurant. She met Claude J. Morales Sr. "Moe" at Piccadilly Dance Hall and on October 24, 1959 the two were married. She then went to work for C & P Telephone Company for several years. She owned and operated a school bus. She worked at Red Lion Carpet. She mostly recently worked as a secretary for Asbury United Methodist Church. Edie loved to sew, crochet, cook, flower garden and play cards with friends and family. She also enjoyed going to the beach. She was a Life member of the Millington Vol. Fire Dept., a member of Asbury United Methodist Church and a member of the Galena Alumni Association. During her service to the Fire Co. she served in such roles as past President of the Ladies Axillary, Secretary for the company, Board of Director, EMT and First Responder and she was instrumental in starting the well-known Chicken and Dumpling dinners for Millington Fire Co. In addition to her parents she was preceded in death by her husband, Claude J. "Mo" Morales, Sr., a brother, Georgie Simon; and her step father, George R. Simon, Sr. She is survived by one son, Claude Joseph "CJ" Morales Jr. and wife Joyce; one daughter, Dina Downey and husband Jesse; four grandchildren, Lauren Morales, Jessica Morales, Jesse Downey Jr., Jennifer Sagar and husband Alex; two great grandchildren, Riley Lawson and Clay Sager all of Millington, Md.; one sister in law, Darlene Johnston and husband Sam of Millington, Md.; nieces, Dana Fellows of Millington, Md., and Katie Simon of Grasonville, Md.; and one special cousin, Neal Shahan of Chestertown, Md. A visitation will be held 6 p.m. to 8 p.m., Friday, Feb. 28, 2014 at Fellows, Helfenbein and Newnam Funeral Home, 370 Cypress St., Millington, Md. Services will be held 1 p.m., Saturday, March 1, 2014 also at the Funeral Home. Interment will follow at Millington Asbury Cemetery in Millington, Md.
