Earl J. Sauerwine

DOVER - Earl J. Sauerwine passed away Friday, Oct. 12, 2012 at Masonic Home of Delaware, Wilmington. He was a member of St. Andrew's Lutheran Church Dover, Union Lodge #7 AF&AM Dover, Evergreen Forest #49 Tall Cedars of Lebanon. Earl was born on Sept. 10, 1921 in Philadelphia, Pa. to the late James and Mabel Fink Sauerwine. The family moved to a farm in Germansville Lehigh County, Pa. in 1935. He graduated from Slatington High School and was a member of the National Honor Society in 1939. He entered the USMC in 1942 and served as TSGT till 1949. He returned to farming in the Lehigh County. He moved to Dover in 1962 to work as aircraft mechanic at Dover AFB. He became a letter carrier for the US Postal Service and retired as Carrier Supervisor in 1982. He is survived by son, Leroy E. Sauerwine; grandson, Andrew D. Sauerwine; granddaughter, Gemma K. Eminowicz, all living in London, England. He is preceded in death by his wife, Helen Marie Sauerwine; his sister, Ruth Metzger of Schnecksville, Pa. He is survived by nieces, Doris (Richard) Koenig of Slatington, Pa. and Phyllis (Carl) Breininger of Germansville, Pa. Friends are invited to a memorial service at St. Andrew's Lutheran Church in Dover, DE. Nov. 13, 2012 at 1:30 p.m. With Masonic Services to follow in the Great Hall at the church. Burial is at the Delaware Veterans Memorial Cemetery. The family request that memorial contributions be given to St. Andrew's Lutheran Church.
