PHILADELPHIA — Drexel outscored Delaware by 17 points in a mid-game run before posting a 76-60 victory over the Blue Hens in a Colonial Athletic Association men’s basketball game on Saturday afternoon.
The Dragons went on a 20-3 run spanning the end of the first half and the beginning of the second as Drexel (1-5 CAA, 7-11 overall) picked up its first conference win of the season.
Delaware (0-6 CAA, 7-12) has lost six games in a row and is now the only CAA squad without a league win.
The Dragons led just 25-23 following an Anthony Mosley layup, but scored the next 10 points and eventually carried a 37-26 advantage into halftime. Drexel then scored the first eight points of the second half, going in front 45-26 and forcing a Blue Hen time out with 17:29 remaining.
Delaware pulled within 13 four times in the second period, but would get no closer.
“Today was a tough day for us,” said Blue Hen coach Martin Ingelsby. “Credit to (Drexel coach) Zach (Spiker), he has his team playing hard and I think their transition opportunities really hurt us. We lost control of the game late in the first half, when it went from a two-point game to an 11-point deficit at the half.
“We’ve got to get better; we’ll go back to practice on Monday and improve.”
Mosley led the Blue Hens with a game-high 18 points, while Ryan Daly contributed 13 points and a team-leading nine rebounds. However, Delaware shot just 33.9 percent from the field, including a 5-of-26 performance from behind the three-point arc.
Rodney Williams led four Dragons in double figures with 15 points, while Austin Williams chipped in with 14 and Kurk Lee added 12 points and six assists. Sammy Mojica narrowly missed a triple-double with nine points, 15 rebounds and 10 assists for Drexel.
Delaware led 6-5 in the opening minutes, but Drexel answered with a 10-2 run and led the rest of the contest. It was still just a two-point game at 25-23 following the Mosley layup, before the Dragons countered with the decisive spurt to pull away.
