MILFORD - Robert L. Klaus M.D. was a leading urologic surgeon in the greater Philadelphia area for over fifty years. He served as President of the Philadelphia Urologic Association, Chief of Urology at the Albert Einstein Medical Center, and Chief of both Surgery and Urology at the Philadelphia Geriatric Center. He died of natural causes in Bryan, Texas on October 25th. Dr. Klaus was the son of Dr. Irving Goncer Klaus, who also served as Chief of Urology at Albert Einstein Medical Center. He graduated from Central High School (185th class, '46), University of Pennsylvania (BA '50, MD '57), and served two years in the United States Army, part of the time in Korea as a Battalion Sergeant-Major. Dr. Klaus was a resident in both surgery and urology at the University of Kansas Medical Center. He was also on staff at Milford Memorial Hospital in Milford, Delaware from 1990 until 2010. He was a member of the American Board of Urology, the Philadelphia and Mid-Atlantic Urologic Associations, the Philadelphia College of Physicians, and a Fellow of the American College of Surgeons. If you asked Dr. Robert Klaus what mattered in life, he'd say it was his wife, Ann Louise Bernard, whom he met in the halls of the University of Pennsylvania Hospital where she was a nurse. They were married for 57 years and had four children, Marley Klaus Dowling, Dr. Robert L. Klaus Jr., Dr. Adam Klaus, and Dru Klaus; and five grandchildren, Luke Dowling, Matthew Dowling, Samantha Klaus, Benjamin Klaus, and Marley Ann Klaus. He was predeceased by his brother, Dr. Richard Klaus; and is survived by his sister, Stephanie Newman. No services are being held.
