Asman, Jr. D.O SMYRNA - John B. "Dr. Jack" Asman, Jr. D.O., passed away peacefully surrounded by his family on Dec. 21, 2013. He was born Mar. 27, 1935 in Philadelphia, Pa. He was a graduate of John Neumann High School, Philadelphia, Villanova University, and the Philadelphia College of Osteopathic Medicine. Dr. Asman had his medical internship in South Bend, Indiana. He began practicing family medicine in South Philadelphia, and in 1972, moved his practice to Smyrna, Delaware, always treating his patients with compassionate care until retiring in 2011 after almost 50 years. Dr. Jack provided 37 years of volunteer service as the Team Doctor to the Smyrna School District. In addition, he was a volunteer and supporter of Hope Clinic, Ducks Unlimited, Smyrna Opera House, and numerous other community organizations. He was a licensed pilot and loved flying out of Smyrna Airport. In addition, he loved woodworking, gardening (with a special love of roses), dancing, travel, the Mummers Parade, and all Philadelphia sports teams. He was preceded in death by his parents, John B. Sr. and Edna Asman; and his first wife, Mary T. Asman. He is survived by his wife of 32 years, Leslie J.; children, Mary Ann Jacobs and her husband Mike, Donna M. Taraschi and her husband Mike, Timothy J. Asman and his wife Teresa, Theresa A. Blumer and her husband Todd, John B. Asman III and his wife Suzanne, Heather A. Marr and her husband Jamie, and Gretchen E. Rose and her husband Dave; grandchildren, Nicholas and wife, Ana, Candice and husband Aaron, Christian, Brittany and husband Dave, Anna and husband Jake, Mikey, Tyler, Zachary, Samantha, Courtney, John IV, Anthony, Jordon, Christopher, Reagan, Cody, and Caden; great-grandchildren, Valen, Nora, Chloe, Wesleigh, Elden, and Ellis; and two beloved dogs, Teddy and Ella. In lieu of flowers the family suggests donations to the Hope Clinic, 1125 Forrest Ave., Ste. 202, Dover, DE 19904-3483, the Kent County SPCA, 32 Shelter Circle, Camden, DE 19934, or any other charitable organization of your choice.
