EASTON - Dr. George Henry Beck Sr., 82. formerly of Cambridge, passed away on Thursday, May 31, 2007 at the Memorial Hospital at Easton.
He was born in Baltimore on Oct. 6, 1924, and was a son of the late William and Emma Weishaar Beck.
Dr. Beck graduated from high school in Baltimore and later attended Western Maryland College. He also attended medical school at the University of Maryland School of Medicine and served his residency at Mercy Hospital in Baltimore.
He worked at the Eastern Shore Hospital Center for over 20 years as a medical doctor until he retired in 1997. During World War II he served in the U.S. Marine Corps and had been at the battle at Okinawa.
On Jan. 31, 1953, he was married to the former Wanda Bradham. She passed away on Feb. 10, 2000.
He enjoyed fishing and baseball and loved politics. He also enjoyed traveling. He had been in failing health since January 2006 and had been a patient at Memorial Hospital at Easton since Tuesday.
Survivors include two daughters, Susan M. Colbourne of Wingate, Wanda A. Mason of Hurlock; two sons, George H. Beck Jr. and his wife, Billie Jo Beck of Hurlock and Dennis M. Beck of Hurlock and eight grandchildren, Angela M. Stevens of Easton, Carl I. Colbourne of Easton, Julie B. Mason of Germantown, Jenni L. Mason of Annapolis, Stephanie D. Lembo, of Portsmouth, Va., Rhiannon Colbourne of Easton, Leah M. Mason of Hurlock and Emily L. Beck of Hurlock. He is also survived by three great-grandchildren, Kal-El T. Miller, Anthony C. Lembo and Russell C. Colbourne; several nieces and nephews; and a beloved dog Oliver.
In addition to his wife, he was preceded in death by a son, John I. Beck; one grandson, Christopher J. Mason; one sister, Evelyn Miller; and two brothers, Ferdinand Beck and William Beck.
A memorial service will be held at 2 p.m. Tuesday at the Thomas Funeral Home in Cambridge with the Rev. Douglas M. Ridley. Burial will take place at a later time at the East New Market Cemetery. The family will receive friends during the hour preceding the service.
