DOVER — A 51-year-old Dover woman was charged with a third offense DUI after being contacted by police in a parking lot at approximately 1:05 p.m.

Dover police officers were initially called to Kent Liquor Mart in the 100 block of S. DuPont Highway for a report of a drunk driver, spokesman Sgt. Mark Hoffman said. Officers contacted Karen S. Townsend in the driver’s seat of her vehicle and based on her actions and appearance, believed she was under the influence of alcohol, police said.

Officers attempted to conduct field sobriety tests, but Ms. Townsend refused, police said. Officers then obtained a search warrant for a blood draw at Bayhealth Hospital, Kent Campus.

Ms. Townsend was later released after posting a $2,101 cash bond after being charged with third offense DUI, driving while suspended/revoked, and no proof of insurance.
