DOVER — A 17-year-old Dover female was arrested Thursday and charged with manslaughter regarding a shooting death last year, authorities said.
Heivyn Johnson had been identified as a person of interest in the fatal shooting of Uniqua Caldwell, 27, of Dover, on July 8, 2020, Dover police spokesman Sgt. Mark Hoffman said. Subsequently, Dover police and the U.S. Marshals First State Fugitive Task Force learned she was at a residence in the 300 block of Harmony Lane.
Police were monitoring the area Thursday and saw the Johnson teen leave the residence and enter a black Chevrolet Suburban parked nearby. Serenity Jackson, 19, of Dover, then emerged from the same residence, while possessing a handgun, Sgt. Hoffman said.
Ms. Jackson contacted the Suburban that contained the Johnson teen, as well as Dover residents Kevin Baynard, 21; Amir Brundge, 21; Destiny Johnson, 19; and Lincoln resident Jaquelle McDonald, 24, according to police.
Destiny Johnson was then seen exiting the black Suburban on Harmony Lane and running back into the residence carrying a brown paper bag, police said. She and the other occupants were all taken into custody without incident.
Police later stopped Ms. Jackson as she was driving, and she was taken into custody for the firearms investigation.
Sgt. Hoffman said a search warrant was obtained for the Harmony Lane residence, and officers located five loaded firearms and 471 grams of marijuana.
In the shooting-death case, Heivyn Johnson was also charged with possession of a firearm during the commission of a felony, possession of a firearm/ammunition by a person prohibited (three counts) and carrying a concealed deadly weapon.
At the time of the shooting in July, police said that Ms. Caldwell was found with a gunshot wound to the head, sitting in the driver’s seat of a vehicle that had crashed in the area of South Dupont Highway and Loockerman Street. She was later pronounced dead at Bayhealth Hospital, Kent Campus.
For the incident Thursday, the Johnson teen was additionally charged with illegal gang participation, possession of a firearm by a person prohibited, possession of a firearm during the commission of a felony and possession of marijuana.
She was given separate $60,000 secured bonds for the two cases and then held at William Marion Stevenson House Detention Center, Milford.
Ms. Jackson was charged with hindering prosecution and released on an own-recognizance bond.
Destiny Johnson was charged with possession of a firearm by a person prohibited (three counts), carrying a concealed deadly weapon (three counts), possession of a firearm during the commission of a felony and possession of marijuana. She was committed to Baylor Women’s Correctional Institution, New Castle, on a $132,100 secured bond.
Mr. McDonald was charged with possession of a firearm by a person prohibited, third-degree conspiracy and possession of marijuana. He was committed to Sussex Correctional Institution, Georgetown, on a $10,300 cash bond.
Mr. Baynard was charged with possession of a firearm by a person prohibited, possession of marijuana and third-degree conspiracy. He was committed to SCI on a $44,000 secured bond.
Mr. Brundge was charged with possession of a firearm by a person prohibited (two counts), possession of marijuana, possession with intent to deliver marijuana, possession of drug paraphernalia and third-degree conspiracy. He was committed to SCI on a $47,850 secured bond.
