DOVER — Dover High placed two players on the boys’ first team as the All-State basketball teams were announced by the Delaware Sportswriters and Broadcasters Association on Friday afternoon.

A total of 18 downstate players were honored with 10 on the boys’ side and eight on the girls’ teams. Voting is done by the state’s head coaches and media members.

Nah’Shon Hyland of St. Georges was awarded the boys’ Player of the Year while Sanford’s Lauren Park earned the girls’ Player of the Year.

Elijah Allen and Eden Davis of Dover both made the boys’ first team. Six players were on the first team due to a tie. Mount Pleasant’s Fah’Mir Ali plus Sanford’s Jyaire Davis and Nnanna Njoku joined Allen, Davis and Hyland on the first team.

It was only the fifth time in the 70-year history of the All-State teams that six players made the first team. The four other times were in 1966, 1982, 1996 and 2000.

Caesar Rodney’s Shaft Clark was the lone downstater on the second team, which had only four players due to the six-player first team. Dover’s Jyheim Spencer and Kaheim Kimbrough-Roach of Lake Forest were given third team honors.

Lake Forest also had Jaysem Vazquez make honorable mention. Nahshon Sylvester (Smyrna), Skylar Johnson (Sussex Tech), Jamon Kane (Woodbridge) and Jamier Felton (Indian River) rounded out the downstate contingent on the honorable mention list.

There were no downstaters on the girls’ first team.

Abby Hearn of Cape Henlopen was the highest girl from the Henlopen Conference, on second team.

There were three downstate players on the third team however — Aniah Patterson of St. Thomas More then Cha-Kya Johnson and Janeira Scott, both from Woodbridge.

St. Thomas More’s Jessica Simmons, Smyrna’s Jayla Smith, Cape Henlopen’s Dania Cannon and Sussex Central’s Raeonna Stratton earned honorable mention list.

Park, Julie Kulesza (Conrad), Stefanie Kulesza (Conrad), Sasha Marvel (Caravel) and Bernyah Ward-Mayo (St. Elizabeth) represented the girls’ first team.
