DOVER — Dover police arrested one man and are seeking a second in connection with a shooting Wednesday, authorities said.
According to Dover police spokesman Sgt. Mark Hoffman, officers responded to a home in the 100 block of Duet Court for a shooting at approximately 7:43 p.m. A 46-year-old man who was shot once in the torso was located, along with a person who broke a hip from a fall, while trying to evade gunfire.
Officers contacted Antar Gales, 37, of Dover, at the scene, police said. It was learned that officers had responded to the neighborhood earlier in the day for a dispute between the household of one of the injured persons and Mr. Gales’ household, according to Sgt. Hoffman. Mr. Gales was not home at the time of the original incident, police said.
Mr. Gales said that he arrived shortly before the shooting to fight a person from the home, authorities said. However, police said, surveillance footage showed Mr. Gales and an unknown suspect arriving together in a late-model gray Volkswagen Jetta with a missing hubcap on the rear passenger side.
The vehicle drove up to the residence, and several shots were fired in the direction of the home, police said. One shot struck the 46-year-old male, and five others struck the front of the home, according to authorities.
Both the 46-year-old man and the person with the broken hip were transported to Bayhealth Hospital, Kent Campus for treatment of non-life-threatening injuries.
Mr. Gales was charged with possession of a firearm during the commission of a felony, second-degree assault, first-degree reckless endangering (four counts), second-degree conspiracy and criminal mischief. He was released after posting a $28,100 secured bond.
The investigation is ongoing, and police asked anyone with information to call 736-7130. Callers may remain anonymous. Tips may also be submitted to law enforcement through Delaware Crime Stoppers at (800) TIP-3333 or via its website; a cash reward is possible for information leading to an arrest.
