DOVER - City police said the death of a 34-year-old man early Friday morning was a homicide resulting from a single gunshot wound to the upper upper body.

According to Dover Police Department spokesman Cpl. Mark Hoffman, authorities received a call just after 3 a.m. reporting that a man, later identified as Dover area resident Thomas Deputy, was found inside a vehicle in the 400 block of Barrister Place suffering from an injury.

Mr. Deputy was pronounced dead after police and EMS attempted to administer first aid, Cpl. Hoffman said. Authorities said Mr. Deputy’s next of kin were contacted.

Police did not disclose the make and model of the vehicle or if Mr. Deputy was the owner, and said it is “stored safely for evidence processing,” according to Cpl. Hoffman.

Earlier, police said the manner of death would not be determined until an autopsy was conducted.

Dover PD said detectives in the Criminal Investigations Unit are investigating and asked anyone with information to call 736-7111. Callers may remain anonymous.
