DOVER — Two Dover men are facing drug charges following a traffic stop Sunday.
A patrol officer stopped a vehicle near South New and West Loockerman streets at 8:39 p.m., after a traffic violation was witnessed, Dover police said. The officer approached and smelled burnt marijuana coming from inside, authorities added.
The driver, William Bessicks, 37, and the passenger, Donald Demby, 46, were detained, while police conducted a search of the vehicle, which yielded a handgun, 71 grams of MDMA, 32 grams of marijuana, 5 grams of cocaine and a large amount of money, they said.
Both men were charged with possession of a firearm during the commission of a felony, carrying a concealed deadly weapon, second-degree conspiracy, possession of drug paraphernalia and possession of a firearm by a person prohibited.
Mr. Demby was also charged with possession with intent to deliver a controlled substance in a Tier 3 quantity, possession with intent to deliver a controlled substance and possession of a controlled substance in a Tier 3 quantity. He was committed to Sussex Correctional Institution, Georgetown, on $79,100 cash bail.
Mr. Bessicks was additionally charged with possession of a controlled substance in a Tier 3 quantity, possession of marijuana other than a personal-use quantity and traffic offenses. He was committed to Sussex Correctional Institution on $60,202 secured bail.
