DOVER - Dover Police ask for the public’s assistance in locating Tyree Stevens, 30, of Dover, following a vehicle pursuit that ended in a collision, injuring one person, a news release said.
Spokesperson Master Cpl. Ryan Schmid said the incident began Tuesday when the department’s Street Crimes Unit was conducting a firearms investigation, which led them to Mr. Stevens.
Officers contacted members of the Delaware State Police Kent Governors Task Force to assist, Cpl. Schmid said. Mr. Stevens was located in the 200 block of Presidents Drive inside of a vehicle at approximately 11:44 p.m., police said.
Officers conducted a traffic stop on Mr. Stevens at which time he fled in the vehicle, police said. He struck a light pole at the north east corner of Bay Road and Presidents Drive and continued northbound on Bay Road, leading officers and troopers on a vehicle pursuit, according to Cpl. Schmid.
The pursuit ended at White Oak Road and North DuPont Highway when Mr. Stevens failed to negotiate a right turn, striking another vehicle that was stopped on White Oak Road waiting for the light, police said.
After the collision, police said, Mr. Stevens fled on foot. A perimeter was set up and K-9 track was conducted. Police said Mr. Stevens was not located at that time.
A 31-year-old Dover woman suffered non-life threatening injuries in the collision and was transported to an area hospital. No other injuries were reported.
Police said a purple and silver Smith & Wesson .38 caliber handgun was located in Mr. Stevens’ vehicle.
Police said Mr. Stevens was wanted on charges including possession of a firearm by person prohibited (two counts), carrying a concealed deadly weapon, disregarding a police officer signal, resisting arrest, third-degree vehicular assault, leaving the scene of a collision resulting in injury, failure to provide information at collision scene resulting in property damage, and multiple traffic charges.
