Dover man faces gun, drug charges after stop

DOVER — Elyas Tilghman, 22, of Dover, was arrested on firearm charges during a traffic stop Sunday.

Dover Police Sgt. Mark Hoffman said officers stopped Mr. Tilghman around 11 p.m. at North DuPont Highway and College Road for a motor vehicle violation.

During the stop, police smelled a strong odor of marijuana coming from the vehicle, he said.

The suspect admitted that there was marijuana in the car and later told officers that there was a handgun inside, as well.

During a search, 4.3 grams of marijuana and a .38-caliber revolver were discovered under the driver’s seat.

Mr. Tilghman was charged with possession of a firearm by a person prohibited, carrying a concealed deadly weapon, possession of marijuana, possession of drug paraphernalia and traffic offenses.

He was released on a $6,040 unsecured bond.
