MIDDLETOWN — A 47-year-old Dover man died in a motorcycle crash on southbound Del. 1 early Friday, Delaware State Police said.
The man was operating a Harley Davidson at a high rate of speed when he failed to maintain its lane approaching a moderate left curve at approximately 12:21 p.m., police said. The motorcycle left its lane and struck the rear of a Hyundai Sonata, police said.
The man was ejected from his motorcycle and came to a rest in the left lane. He was then struck by a Ford F-250 traveling southbound, police said.
The motorcycle operator was not wearing a safety helmet and was pronounced dead at the scene, police said. His name is being withheld until his family and relatives are notified.
The Hyundai’s operator, a 62-year-old Dover man, and the Ford’s operator, a 38-year-old Milton man, were not injured.
The roadway was closed for approximately four hours while the scene was investigated and cleared.
The Troop 2 Collision Reconstruction Unit continues to investigate this incident. Troopers are asking anyone who witnessed this collision to contact Cpl. P. McAndrew by calling 302-365-8486.
