DOVER - The Dover Police Department arrested Isaac Ross, 18, of Dover on weapons and drug charges Wednesday night, authorities said.
According to spokesperson Master Cpl. Ryan Schmid, at approximately 10:38 p.m., officers were in the area of Boggs Drive and Buck Drive, assisting Delaware Probation and Parole with a curfew check at a residence.
Mr. Ross was seen exiting a vehicle in the area of the residence they were checking, at which time he initiated a conversation with the officers, police said. The vehicle Mr. Ross exited was still occupied and officers were unable to contact the probationer at the residence, Cpl. Schmid said
Officers contacted the vehicle’s occupants and detected the odor of marijuana coming from inside the vehicle, police said. A vehicle search was conducted and as a result, a tan and black Polymer 80 9mm handgun with an extended magazine, an additional magazine containing 10 rounds of 9mm ammunition, and approximately 5.5 grams of marijuana were located where Mr. Ross had been seated, police said.
Mr. Ross was taken into custody without incident, police said.
An adult Dover female was given a civil citation for possession of marijuana and the remaining occupants were released without charges.
Mr. Ross was charged with possession counts including firearm by a person prohibited, ammunition by a person prohibited, untraceable firearm and marijuana in a personal use quantity, along with carrying a concealed deadly weapon. He was arraigned at Justice of the Peace Court 7 and committed to Sussex Correctional Institution on $30,501 secured bail.
