DOVER - David Pryor, 40, of Dover, was arrested motor vehicle theft and third offense driving under the influence charges Saturday, authorities said.
Dover Police spokesman Master Cpl. Ryan Schmid said investigation began at 11:55 a.m., when a call was received for a stolen vehicle at Kent Liquor Mart at 103 South DuPont Highway.
Officers responded and contacted a 43-year-old Dover man in connection with the call. Officers were able to review surveillance footage, which police said showed Mr. Pryor was the individual responsible for stealing the his vehicle.
At approximately 12:14 p.m. officers observed the vehicle turning onto College Road from McKee Road and attempted to stop the vehicle in the area of Kenton Road and College Road. Mr. Pryor did not initially stop and continued driving, passing numerous safe locations to pull over, and finally came to a stop in the middle of the southbound lane of Kenton Road, police said.
Once stopped, Mr. Pryor refused to exit the vehicle and had to be physically removed by officers, police said. Officers noticed that Mr. Pryor showed signs of impairment once he was taken into custody, police said.
Mr. Pryor was also charged with disregard a police officer’s signal, resisting arrest, and driving while suspended/revoked. He was committed to Sussex Correctional Institution on $7,000 secured bail.
