DOVER - Terrence Jones, 54, of Dover, was arrested following a burglary at Food Lion early Wednesday, authorities said.

Dover Police spokesman Master Cpl. Ryan Schmid said when a call was received reporting a burglary at the store at 2:04 a.m. He said it was reported that there was a male inside of the business causing damage and removing property from the store.

Officers responded, however and the suspect was gone upon their arrival, police said. Officers confirmed that the suspect had broken into the store by shattering a glass door and that he removed an undisclosed amount of tobacco products from the store at 1030 Forrest Avenue Suite 106.

According to Cpl. Schmid, officers reviewed store surveillance and obtain a suspect description which was relayed to other officers working.

At 3:42 a.m., Cpl. Schmid said, Mr. Jones was taken into custody without incident on South New Street wearing the exact clothing from the burglary and was in possession of tobacco products.

Mr. Jones was charged with third-degree burglary, possession of burglar tools, theft under $1,500, and criminal mischief $1,000 but less than $5,000. He was released on $3,000 unsecured bail but committed to Sussex Correctional Institution on an outstanding capias, police said.
