Dover man facing weapon offenses
By Mike FinneyDOVER — A 30-year-old Dover man was charged on weapon counts after running from city police Saturday, spokesman Master Cpl. Ryan Schmid said.
The investigation began when officers were patrolling the downtown area and saw Jahmelle Taylor seated in a vehicle near West Loockerman and South Bradford streets.
Police discovered that Mr. Taylor was wanted on earlier charges and attempted to contact him. However, the suspect ran from them, dropping a handgun while doing so, Cpl. Schmid said.
Officers subsequently took Mr. Taylor into custody without further incident and recovered the handgun.
He was charged with two counts of possession of a firearm by a person prohibited, carrying a concealed deadly weapon, tampering with physical evidence and resisting arrest.
Mr. Taylor was committed to Sussex Correctional Institution, Georgetown, on $36,500 cash bail.
