DOVER - Nathaniel Bowman, 32, of Dover, was arrested on burglary and strangulation charges after an alleged incident on Saturday morning, authorities said.

According to Dover police spokesperson Master Cpl. Ryan Schmid, officers responded to a residence on East Water Street at approximately 5:25 a.m. after receiving a 911 call where yelling could be heard on an open line. Cpl. Schmid said officers responded and contacted a woman who said Mr. Bowman had broken into her home and assaulted her with her children present.

Police said the woman called 911 during the struggle but Mr. Bowman took the phone from her, and began assaulting her again before fleeing the residence with some of her property.
Cpl. Schmid said officers determined that Mr. Bowman fled to a residence located in the 400 block of River Road. He was taken into custody without incident at the residence, police said.

Mr. Bowman was charged with first-degree burglary, strangulation, third-degree assault, theft under $1,500, endangering the welfare of a child (five counts), malicious interference with emergency communications, and criminal mischief. He was committed to Sussex Correctional Institution on $38,500 secured bail
