DOVER — Brandon Gatewood, 28, of Dover, was arrested after allegedly chasing a man with a firearm Sunday, authorities said.
According to Dover police spokesman Sgt. Mark Hoffman, a patrol officer was approached by a 24-year-old man who said he’d been chased by an armed individual.
After receiving a description of the man, an officer attempted to contact Mr. Gatewood, who was running toward the Manchester Square neighborhood. When the officer approached, the suspect fled on foot but was taken into custody shortly after, police said.
During the pursuit, Mr. Gatewood was seen clutching his front waistband, police said. A search of the area where he ran led to the discovery of a loaded polymer handgun (often referred to as a “ghost gun”), Sgt. Hoffman said.
According to the victim, Mr. Gatewood approached him while he was seated in his vehicle on Starboard Court and pointed the firearm at him, police said. The man then exited his vehicle and fled on foot.
The suspect was charged with possession of a firearm during the commission of a felony, possession of a firearm/ammunition by a person prohibited (two counts), aggravated menacing, resisting arrest, possession of an untraceable firearm and possession of a weapon with a removed serial number.
