DOVER — An 83-year-old man died in a single-car crash Friday, city police said.
John McRae of Dover was driving a 2009 Pontiac Solstice east on Persimmon Tree Road, near Persimmon Circle, at around 7 p.m., when he failed to negotiate a curve and the car left the street’s right edge, Master Cpl. Ryan Schmid said.
The vehicle continued east along the grass and struck a utility pole at the southwest corner of the intersection, overturning and coming to rest of its roof, Cpl. Schmid said.
Mr. McRae was taken to Bayhealth Hospital, Kent Campus in Dover after being extricated from the scene by members of the Dover Fire Department. He succumbed to his injuries while being treated.
