DOVER — A 19-year-old Dover man died from a gunshot wound to the chest Monday, Dover police spokesman Sgt. Mark Hoffman said.
Dazhmier Brooks was found unresponsive as police officers arrived at the scene in the 400 block of Sussex Avenue, authorities said. Police rendered aid until medical personnel arrived, and Mr. Brooks was transported to Bayhealth Hospital, Kent Campus, where he later died from his injury, police added.
Police received calls about a shooting at approximately 9:16 p.m., Sgt. Hoffman said.
An investigation is ongoing, and “detectives are working various leads at this time,” the sergeant added.
Police asked anyone with information to call 736-7130. Callers may remain anonymous. Tips may also be submitted to law enforcement through Delaware Crime Stoppers at (800) TIP-3333 or here; a cash reward is possible for information leading to an arrest.
Sgt. Hoffman said the incident is the city’s first homicide of 2021.
