Dover King Buffet, Friendly’s burglarized

Posted

DOVER — Burglaries were reported to the Dover Police Department at the King Buffet and Friendly’s restaurants on North DuPont Highway on Sunday morning.

According to Dover police spokesman Sgt. Mark Hoffman, officers first responded to King Buffet, 293 N. DuPont Highway, around 8:56 a.m. Authorities said the officers saw a cash register hanging from a broken window.

In addition, video surveillance showed a male suspect wearing a hooded sweatshirt, gloves, a face mask, a hat and possibly jeans forcing entry into the business, Sgt. Hoffman said.

Officers were then called to the Friendly’s at 318 N. DuPont Highway, across the street from King Buffet, at 9:55 a.m. A broken window in the walk-up service area was observed.

At that location, video surveillance showed a suspect using a hammer to break the window and gain entry into the restaurant. Once inside, the suspect was observed forcing open a safe and removing the contents, including an undisclosed amount of cash, according to authorities.

Police said the suspect was wearing dark jeans, a black, hooded Nike sweatshirt, a hat, gloves and a face mask.

The investigation is ongoing, and anyone with information is asked to contact the Dover Police Department at 736-7111. Callers may remain anonymous. Tips may also be submitted through Delaware Crime Stoppers at 800-TIP-3333 or here; a cash reward is possible for information leading to an arrest.
