Dover home invasion brings shooting, drug dealing arrest

DOVER — A 41-year-old Dover man was charged with drug dealing after shooting a suspect during a home invasion at his residence Wednesday, authorities said.

John Cook allegedly shot a 46-year-old man in the upper torso several times in the midst of a home invasion in the 2400 block of White Oak Road approximately 12:50 a.m. Dover police officers arrived, spokesperson Master Cpl. Ryan Schmid said, and the wounded man later located was transported to an area hospital, He was then flown to a New Castle County hospital and listed in critical condition.

Police said surveillance video had shown the wounded man and another man meeting with Mr. Cook on the porch of his residence. The men, one armed, began to attack Mr. Cook, and police said he fled inside his residence before shots were fired.

Later, a search warrant for the residence located approximately 61.6 grams of fentanyl, 3.1 grams of heroin, 11 illegal M class explosive devices and various drug packing material, police said.

Mr. Cook was located in Middletown on Wednesday and arrested, police said.

Mr. Cook was charged with possession offenses including controlled substance in a Tier 3 quantity, ammunition by a person prohibited, with intent to deliver a controlled substance, destructive weapon, and drug paraphernalia. He was arraigned at committed to Sussex Correctional Institution on a $146,200 cash bail.
