FELTON — Local teams ruled the competition at the 37th annual Keith S. Burgess Invitational on Saturday afternoon, hosted by Lake Forest High.

The Dover High boys took home the team title with 172 points while the Caesar Rodney High girls earned the meet championship, also accumulating 172 points.

Caesar Rodney finished second on the boys’ side and Dover was second for the girls. Lake Forest ended up third in both the boys and girls competitions.

The Senators boys were led by eight first place finishes.

John Rodel Castro captured the 100-meter dash in 11.27, Kyron Robert won the 800-meter run in 2:00.05, Aaron Johnson was first in the 110-meter hurdles (15.04), Tayshaun Chisolm won the 300-meter hurdles in 40.85, DeVontae Wilson jumped 42-feet-6-inches to top the triple jump field and William Scott earned first in the shot put with a toss of 50-feet-6.5-inches. Dover also won the 4x200-meter relay and the 4x400-meter relay.

The Rider girls won three relays (4x100, 4x200, 4x800) and had four individual winners — Jaleesa Mackey in the 110-meter hurdles (16.85), Cierra Florio in the pole vault (7-foot-9), Yeila Correa in the long jump (16-foot-9.25) and Kierra Razor in the triple jump (35-foot-1).

Naiya Smith of Sussex Central won the most events, with three first place finishes. Smith swept the girls’ sprints, winning the 100-meter dash (12.57), the 200-meters (25.67) and the 400-meters (57.74).

Diante Cannon topped the field in both the 200-meters and the 400-meters on the boys’ side. The Lake Forest sprinter ran a 23.48 in the 200 and a 51.41 in the 400.

Lake Forest was also led by high-jumper Isaiah Morris who broke the school record with a leap of 6-foot-7 to win the high jump.

The Caesar Rodney boys were paced by lone individual winner, Johnathan Epstein in the 1600-meters (4:40.39).

The Dover girls had three champions. Hayleigh Jimenez finished the 3200-meters in 13:02.76 to win, Christina Garcia (5-foot-0) won the high jump and Q’Nijah Hudson threw 33-foot-7.5 to win the shot put.

Sussex Tech won a combined six events between the boys and girls, finishing fifth in the boys’ competition and fourth in the girls.

The Ravens were led by Ben Ben Bamforth who won the boys’ 3200 (10:23.84), Matt Schrock who topped the boys’ pole vault (11-foot-9), Isiah Brown who won the boys’ long jump (21-foot-1), Hannah Venables who finished first in the girls’ 800 (2:35.94) and Roxanne Ramirez who won the girls’ 1600 (5:35.56). Sussex Tech also prevailed in the boys’ 4x100-meter relay.

Other individual winners from downstate included Sussex Central’s Tatyana Jenkins in the girls’ 300-meter hurdles (48.21) and Cape Henlopen’s Andrea Brzoska in the girls’ discus (111-foot-10).
