DOVER - A 63-year-old bicycle-riding man died after being struck by a vehicle Monday night, authorities said.

According to the Dover Police Department, Bernard Etapale was riding a bicycle in the bike lane while traveling westbound on Hazletville Road approaching Wyoming Mill Road before being struck at approximately 5:57 p.m. Police said preliminary investigation found that the bicyclist left the bike lane and entered into the straight travel lane, directly into a vehicle’s path.

Bystanders and arriving Dover police officers rendered first aid and CPR to Mr. Etapale, who was transported to Bayhealth-Kent General Hospital a short time later, authorities said. He  was later flown to Chrisitana Hospital, where he was later pronounced dead as a result of head trauma.

Police said Mr. Etapale was not wearing a helmet at the time of the collision.
