GEORGETOWN - Dottie W. Aikenpassed away on Monday, Feb. 18, 2013 at home. Dottie was born in Franklin, W. Va. on Jan. 12, 1940. Dottie was an Administrative Assistant for the Delaware Seashore State Park for 22 years, retiring in 1997. She was a member of the Grace Church in Milton. She worked with her sister, volunteering with the Sussex Chapter of MADD for several years. She enjoyed quilting, painting, surf and flounder fishing. She won a surf casting championship in 1966. She is preceded in death by her adoptive parents, Alan and Mabel (Webb) Wharton; brothers, Lester, Gary, Will, Jimmy, and George Smith; and sister, Marsha Smith. She is survived by her husband of 52 years, Harry W. Aiken, Sr.; sons, Harry W. (Buddy) Aiken, Jr. and Scott M. Aiken, Sr., both of Georgetown; six grandchildren, Amanda Redden, John Aiken, Samantha Aiken, Scott Aiken, Jr., Jessica Aiken and Tyler Aiken; one great grandchild, Cyler Aiken; one sister, Dolly Banks of Georgetown; and one brother, John Smith of Laurel. Funeral Services will be held at 1 p.m. on Friday, Feb. 22, 2013 in the chapel of Short Funeral Services, 609 E. Market St., Georgetown, DE, where friends may call after 11 a.m. Casual attire requested. Interment will be in Delaware Veterans Memorial Cemetery, Millsboro, DE. As per Dottie's request, in lieu of flowers, please send memorials to: Tunnell Cancer Center, 18947 John J. Williams Hwy., Rehoboth Beach, DE 19971.
