Dorothy Carolyn Sammons

Sammons, 84 GEORGETOWN - Dorothy Carolyn Sammons passed away peacefully at Harrison Senior Living in Georgetown on October 15, 2015. Dorothy was born in Georgetown, on September 27, 1931, the youngest daughter of the late Madeline (Corey) and Grover J. Sammons, Sr. In addition to her parents, she was predeceased by three brothers, Howard Sammons, Cornell Sammons, and Grover J. Sammons, Jr. (Joe), and three sisters, Marion Spencer, Ruth Knapp, and G. Marjorie Pettit. Dorothy is survived by her sister, Esther Sammons Scaggs of Lewes, her sister-in-law, Virginia W. Sammons of Georgetown, and several nieces and nephews. Dorothy was a 1949 graduate of Georgetown High School. She retired from the Diamond State Telephone Company. At one time, Dorothy and her sisters, Esther and Ruth, were all telephone operators. Dorothy was a member of Wesley United Methodist Church in Georgetown. She also was a member of the Telecom Pioneers (formerly the Telephone Pioneers of America) and a member of the Georgetown Chapter #9, Order of the Eastern Star. Dorothy was league bowler in Dover and was very proud of her license as a ham radio operator. She also enjoyed traveling and especially loved her trip to Hawaii. The family would like to offer a special thanks to Dorothy's caregivers at home and the staff of Harrison House, both of whom provide her with excellent care. Funeral services will be private. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions can be made to the American Lung Association, 422 S. Governor's Avenue, Dover, DE 19904. Arrangements handled by Short Funeral Services, Georgetown, DE
