
Doris Marie Blair, 85
MARYDEL, DE - Doris Marie Blair passed away peacefully on Thursday, May 12, 2022 surrounded by the love and care of her family.
She was born in Townsend, Delaware on September 10, 1936 to Willard and Vivian Guessford, the first of 11 siblings. She attended local schools and graduated from Dover High School.
Doris was a certified nursing assistant at Delaware Home and Hospital for the Chronically Ill in Smyrna, retiring in 1999. After retirement, she worked as a caregiver for several individuals in the Dover area.
Family was at the heart of everything in Doris' life. She hosted all of the holiday family gatherings and was an exceptional cook. She enjoyed camping with her family, dancing, and caring for her dogs. She was a member of the Hartly United Methodist Church.
She was preceded in death by her parents, Willard and Vivian Guessford; her siblings, Willard "Bucky" Guessford, Albert Guessford, Richard "Herbie" Guessford, Freddy Guessford, Patsy Nickerson, Nancy Borntreger, and Baby Girl Guessford; her former husband, Edward "Ebby" Nickerson; and her daughters, Rhonda Nickerson Johnson and Janice Lynn Nickerson.
Doris is survived by her husband, Charles Blair; her son, Edward "Brother" Nickerson, Jr. of Hartly, DE (spouse: Donna, children: Edward "Eddie" and Ryan); her daughter, Karen Cote of Dover, DE (spouse: Michael, children: Courtney Hacker and Brittany Cote); her grandchildren, Amber Augustus, Candy Kelly, Joseph Johnson, and Henry William "Billy" Austin; fourteen great-grandchildren; her siblings, Betty Bryant, Davey Staats, Jimmy Guessford, and Virginia Lee; her close friend, Bessie Eglit; and wonderful neighbors: the Briggs, the Kents, and the Martins.
A celebration of her well-lived life will be held at Torbert Funeral Chapel, 1145 E. Lebanon Road, Dover on Thursday, May 19, 2022 with the service beginning at 11 a.m. Visitation will take place one hour prior. Interment will immediately follow at Odd Fellows Cemetery, Camden.
