Doris L. 'Dottie' Phillips Bailey SALISBURY - Doris L. "Dottie" Phillips Bailey passed away peacefully on Sunday, May 16, 2010, at Coastal Hospice by the Lake in Salisbury. She was born Feb. 25, 1930, in Hurlock to the late H. Edward Phillips and Agnita Bradley Phillips. After graduating from Hurlock High School, she attended Western Maryland College and graduated in 1951 with a degree in Library Science. She worked at Stemmers Run Junior High School as the school librarian. On July 19, 1952, Doris Lee married Lawrence T. Bailey of Baltimore. After a few years in Baltimore, they were transferred to Pittsburgh, where they stayed until Lawrence retired from Koppers Company in 1983. They then returned to the Eastern Shore and lived in Cambridge until 2002 when they moved to Mallard Landing Retirement Community in Salisbury. Doris loved to volunteer at local libraries. Most recently she helped at the Mallard Landing Library where she was chairperson of the library committee. She and Larry also loved to travel and enjoyed every adventure they took. Several Disney Cruises were shared with their children and grandchildren which made for many magical memories for all. Doris also loved spending time at Rehoboth Beach, Del. Mrs. Bailey is survived by a son, Paul T. Bailey who lives in Towson and his wife, Deanna and two sons, Bradley and Daniel; her daughter, Ellen Ann is married to David Bennett and lives in Canfield, Ohio, with their four children, Bailey, Caroline, Drew and Lake. In addition to her surviving cousins, she is also survived by a special cousin, Barbara Phillips of Salisbury. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband who died on Jan. 9, 2006. We celebrated her life with a funeral service held at 1 p.m. Thursday, June 3 at Unity Washington United Methodist Church in Hurlock, where the family received friends one hour prior to the service. The Rev. Bonnie Shively officiated. Burial followed in the Maryland Veterans' Cemetery in Beulah. In lieu of flowers, donations in memory of Doris P. Bailey can be made to Unity Washington Church Scholarship Fund, P. O. Box 298, Hurlock, MD 21643; or Mallard Landing Library Fund, 1107 South Schumaker Drive, Salisbury, MD 21804. The Zeller Funeral Home in East New Market is handling the arrangements.
