
Doris H. Riggin, 96
DENTON - Doris H. Riggin, formerly of Laurel, passed away on January 4, 2023 at Homestead Assisted Living in Denton, Maryland. She was born on April 18, 1926 in Lewes, Delaware. She was the daughter of G. Sidney and Evah Harrington.
She attended school and graduated from Laurel High School in 1945. She worked at Sussex Trust Bank in Laurel while her husband Lee was overseas. She also worked as a Secretary at Centenary Church in Laurel for several years, They moved to Oak Street and lived there for many years. They spent the remaining 30 years of their life in a home on the Sharptown Road in Laurel. They were married on March 7, 1945 and were married for 74 years until Lee's death in September, 2018. She and Lee were lifetime members of Centenary Church in Laurel. She helped out in various ways with groups at the church. She was a loving Mom and Grandmom and she and Lee enjoyed spending time with their grandchildren. They traveled extensively when Lee worked for Kiwanis International. Lee made it to all 50 states in their travels while Doris missed only Oklahoma. She enjoyed reading, crossword puzzles and playing cards with her friends.
Doris is survived by: her children, Robert Riggin and his wife Debbie of Federalsburg and Connie Rice and her husband Bryan of Milford; her grandchildren, Stephen Chapis and his wife Germaine of Georgetown, Kyle Riggin and his wife Lanai of Hurlock and Stephanie Buchert and her husband Todd of Georgetown; her great grandchildren, Colby Buchert, Alyse Buchert, Kylie Riggin, Erin Riggin and Hayley Riggin; her step grandchildren, Debbie Marling and Robert Rice. Several nieces and nephews also survive her.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Lee Pepper Riggin; grandson, Kevin Lee Riggin; and her brother, George Harrington.
A viewing will be held on Wednesday, January 11, 2023 from 12:30pm-1:30pm at Centenary United Methodist Church, 200 West Market Street, Laurel, Delaware 19956. A funeral will follow at 1:30 pm at church. Reverend Dean Perdue will officiate. Interment will follow in Laurel Hill Cemetery.
