GREENWOOD - Doris E. Reed went home to be with her Lord, Thursday, August 2, 2012, at Nanticoke Memorial Hospital. She was born January 17, 1938, in Ridgely, Md. the daughter of Russell and Katherine Stevens. Doris worked at Cheer Home Services before her retirement. She was a member of Lifeway Church of God in Bridgeville. Doris grew up with her father and sisters singing in church. Later in life she played the guitar and sang in church and nursing homes. Many weekends she would spend time with her family at the racetrack while her husband and son raced. She loved church, gospel music, making pies for the needy, traveling thru the US, shopping, family, and spoiling her grandchildren. Besides her parents she is preceded in death by her son, James Alan Reed Jr. in March of this year. She is survived by her husband of 56 years, James A. Reed Sr.; two daughters, Janet and her husband Bryan Hibbs Sr. of Denton, Md. and Jacquie Reed of Federalsburg, Md.; three grandchildren, Brooke and David McMahan of Preston, Md., Bryan and Jennifer Hibbs Jr. of Greenwood, and Brittany and James McCraken of Denton, Md.; six great grandchildren; three sisters; one brother; and a true friend Janice Wisseman of Federalsburg, Md. Memorial service will be held 6 p.m., on Friday, August 10, 2012, at Lifeway Church of God, 7046 Seashore Hwy, Bridgeville, DE 19933. Friends may call on the family one hour prior to services. Burial will be private. Donations may be made to Fleischauer Funeral Home, POB 502, Greenwood, DE 19950 to help defray funeral cost.
