HARRINGTON - Doris D. Klapp passed away on Saturday, June 22, 2013 at the Milford Hospice Center. She was born to the late Harry A. and Kathleen I. Porter. Doris worked at Bayhealth-Kent General Hospital for almost 30 years in the gift shop. She loved her job and enjoyed interacting with all the people. Doris loved good conversation and spending time with her family and friends. She enjoyed shopping and going out to eat with her sisters who shared a very close bond. She loved animals especially her dogs, and supported the SPCA faithfully. Doris had a heart of gold and would help anyone in need. She was willing to help total strangers if she felt they needed something. Many times she would pull over to the side of the road to help the homeless. She was kind, considerate, always caring for others above herself and will be greatly missed. Doris was part of the Harrington High School Class of 1956. She looked forward to reunions and monthly luncheons that were held. She also attended the Calvary Wesleyan Church of Harrington. She was preceded in death by her husband, Charles L. Klapp; brothers, Donald L. Porter, William "Billy" H. Porter, and Ronald J. Porter. She is survived by her son, Danny L. Porter of Harrington; sisters, Faye P. (Doug) Trader of Harrington, Robbin (Kenny) Stubbs of Harrington, and Debbie K. (Brad) Butler of Harrington; brothers, Jack V. (Bertha) Wyatt of Harrington, Ricky L. (Debbie) Porter of Milford, and Wayne (Doris) Porter of Harrington; grandchildren, Dana Porter and Danny "D.J." Porter Jr.; special friends who were like sisters, Betty Truitt and Peggy Mowery; and numerous nieces, nephews and extended family. Service will be held at noon on Wednesday, June 26, 2013 at the Melvin Funeral Home, 15522 South DuPont Hwy., Harrington. Visitation will be one hour prior to the service.
