WOODSIDE - Dora Thomas 'Tom' Truitt passed away Thursday, Oct. 4, 2012, in his home surrounded by his family. Tom was born May 30, 1934, in Willard's, Maryland to the late Ray and Anna Truitt. He graduated from Caesar Rodney High School in 1953. He worked as a heavy equipment operator installing underground telephone cable. Helping design the large piece of equipment (Big Bertha) that he used to plow the telephone cable was the highlight of his career. Tom installed underground telephone cable, and later in his career, fiber optic telephone line in Delaware, New Jersey, Maryland, Pennsylvania and Washington D.C. Tom enjoyed camping and fishing with his family at Pig Pen Pond (Reynolds Pond) in Milton, Del. He also spent many hours woodworking, carving figures, and making wooden baskets and intricate Christmas ornaments. Tom is preceded in death by his sisters, Etta Thompson and Elizabeth Truitt; brothers Harold Truitt, Williams Truitt and Fredrick Truitt. He is survived by his wife of 50 years, Priscilla 'Sue' Truitt; sons, Thomas D. Truitt and his wife Tamara, David K. Truitt; daughter, Deborah S. Sullivan and her husband James; grandchildren, Christina Breakie, Heather Truitt, Tiffinay Truitt, Jedediah Sullivan, Laurel Sullivan, Justin Truitt; and great-grandson, Justice Keller. Funeral service will be 1 p.m Monday, Oct. 8, 2012 at the Pippin Funeral Home, 119 W. Camden-Wyoming Ave., Wyoming, where friends may gather one hour earlier. Burial will follow in Barratt's Chapel Cemetery, Frederica.
