MIDDLETOWN — Appoquinimink School District is committed to alleviating child hunger. Every school and building is part of the Kids First Food Closet.
Daily operation falls to the students and staff in the Life Centered Career Education pathway at Middletown High. These students raise funds, stock shelves, and box orders in response to a call from one of the school social workers that a family is in need. (To maintain confidentiality, school social workers pick up and deliver the items.)
Several times a year, when supplies get low, the district launches a food drive. Donations of nonperishable food can be made at any Appoquinimink school building. Blue bins are prominently displayed in most buildings, or items can be left with a member of front desk staff. If you’d like to make a cash donation, contact the Student Services Department at 302-376-4111.
Special thanks go out to Jennifer Sparks and Old State Elementary who have embraced this request as a way to honor the memory of teacher Brooke Copher.
